About Church History I

MAIN PURPOSES OF THIS CLASS: To become more devoted to Christ through learning about His faithfulness to His people for the past 2000 years; to honor the followers of Jesus who have gone before us; to become more devoted to serving the Church through learning it’s history; to think critically about decisions made by followers of Jesus and doctrines discussed in different eras and become more grounded in what examples we emulate and doctrines we believe. 

Class Content

We will survey history beginning with the Ascension of Jesus and concluding shortly before the Reformation. Topics will include fascinating things like how the early church was comprised, how the Bible cannon was finalized, debates and heresies that followers of Jesus walked through, external pressures such as persecution in many parts of the world, the beginnings of Monasticism, the formation and rise of the Catholic Papacy, the origins and beliefs of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and more.
